Pedagogic method for the preservation of the Gipsy/Romani intangible cultural heritage in the Gandhi
The Gandhi High School, Dormitory and Elementary School of Arts in Pécs is the first Gypsy/Roma nationality school in Hungary and also in Europe, which gives graduation since 1994. The pedagogical programme facilitates the transmission of the vanishing Gypsy/Roma heritage, whilst the language education (Lovaric, Beas), the education of Gypsy/Roma folk knowledge and arts, plus researching their values are also highly significant for the school. Students can acquire knowledge by means of community-building and high-level education which help to strengthen their identity and facilitate their later social integration. The Gandhi institutional system contributes to the accessibility and comprehension of the diverse culture of Gypsy/Roma people and the acceptance of cultural diversity in Hungary and also internationally.
