Miraflores Park is the largest green zone in Sevilla with its 90 hectars, covered in beautiful flowers, plants and historical constructions. The territory has a long history, as there have been gardens in this area for centuries. In the 20th century, local initiatives were launched to turn the territory into a park, though today there are parts that still need to be remodeled or redesigned. In 1982, due to the problematic situation of La Macarena neighborhood, Sevillla proposed the creation of a park encouraging the participation of residents in designing, constructing and imagining the future use of the park, which was going to be located on the 'green area' according to the General Plan 1963.  In 1983, the Pro-Parque Educational Miraflores Committee was established with a specific interest in cultural and natural heritage and the management of these resources.  Three years later the Association promoted the first archaeological excavation.  In 1987 the territory of the park obtained the status of 'public free space' thanks to the work of the Association and neighborhood. A year later, the Hacienda de Miraflores was declared as 'Bien de interés Cultural'. In 1991 four leisure centers, school gardens and orchards were implemented in the area. In addition there were initiatives for young people, such as training of young unemployed people or educational programes for students.
